Two manuscript agreements signed by former Confederate soldiers on December 4, 1866 in Freestone County, Texas, regarding the renting of farmland, one agreement signed by A. H. Carter, James S. Payne, and A. J. Wynne, the other agreement entered into by A. J. Wynne, acting as agent for Mrs. M. Childers, Carter, and Payne, signed at bottom by A. H. Carter and James S. Payne, both - 9 1/2" x 7 3/4". Carter and Payne both served in the 12th Regiment, Texas Infantry, Companies I & L in the Confederate Army.
