Slavery related Civil War manuscript letter, written from the Office Depot Quartermaster at Natches, Miss., concerning the authorization of the use of runaway slaves, contraband, for cutting wood, dated October 19, 1863, 10" x 8". President Lincoln, after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation, authorized the use of runaway slaves in service of the U. S. Army.
