Philadelphia Chippendale walnut secretary bookcase, ca. 1755, the upper section with a broken arch bonnet with carved rosettes and applied shell and spandrels, over two tombstone panel doors and candleslides, resting on a base with a fall front enclosing a fitted interior above three short and three long drawers supported by bracket feet, 99 1/4" h., 38 1/4" w. Property sold with the approval of the trustees of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to benefit acquisition funds. A few small patches to applied carving, the door frames reset, feet ended out 2", brasses replaced, slight warping to drawers. Top and bottom by association.
