English pewter tripod candlestick, 13th / 14th c., decorated with a beaded socket, supported by an elaborately decorated base, inscribed ECCE AMCVS, on trifid feet, 1 1/2" h., a similar but finer example of a candlestick in the collection of the London Museum, illustrated in Christopher Bangs, The Lear Collection: A Study of Copper-Alloy Socket Candlesticks - A.D. 200 - 1700, 1995, No. 170, together with another English 14th c. pewter example with pierced shaft, circular base, and handle, 1 7/8" h., also illustrated in Christopher Bangs, The Lear Collection: A Study of Copper-Alloy Socket Candlesticks - A.D. 200 - 1700, 1995, No. 171, and another example with decorated base, 1 1/4" h., all three were excavated from the Thames River.
