Berks County, Pennsylvania painted dower chest dated 1803, the top and front profusely decorated with tulip vines, parrots, stars, etc. on a blue ground, the sides feature 2 facing parrots, all above 3 sponge decorated drawers supported by ogee bracket feet, 27" h., 47 3/4" w. The treatment of the parrots is reminiscent of the Pennsylvania fraktur artists drawings including Otto and Mertel.
