Wilhelm Schimmel(1817-1890), Cumberland Valley, Pennsylvania, carved and polychrome decorated pine standing rooster with a yellow body highlighted with black, green, and red on a small base, 4 3/4" h. For similar examples, see Helen Janssen Wetzel, Sotheby's, October 1980, lots 1772-1776.
Wear to beak area. Large crack through head and breast and old repair at breast. Minor edge flakes on base.
