US Springfield model 1868 trapdoor rifle, .50-70 caliber, with walnut stock, stamped No. 14 at wrist, the top of buttstock is stamped 43 16 ??, the lock is stamped US Springfield 1863 with eagle, the breech block stamped 1870 with eagle head, crossed arrows and US, 32 1/2" barrel. SN #33225 Provenance: The Firearms & Militaria Collection of Robert Spangler Jr., West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Good overall condition with all metal bright, fair bore with good rifling, stocks show normal handling marks with numerous proofs, rack numbers and the initials WF carved into the right butt stock, block exhibits some movement when closed, with period leather sling.
