Two Stephen Girard signed documents, one for 5,000 bank shares for James William McCulloh who was the Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, dated 27th August 1816; the other a note from the Bank of the United States for $522.24 to Capt. Ezra Bowen, dated 1804; Stephen Girard was philanthropist and banker, he personally saved the U.S. government from financial collapse during the War of 1812, and became one of the wealthiest people in America. Both with edge loss, minor stains, edge tears.
