James Madison and James Monroe signed military appointment, dated 1st of January 1814, appointing George Helmbold to second Lieutenant of the thirteenth regiment of infantry, together with a War Department letter notifying George Helmbold of his appointment with instructions to notify the department of acceptance or non-acceptance, signed by James Monroe. George Helmbold was the publisher of the Philadelphia comic paper"The Tickler".
