Swirl Artist School(New Britain Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 1829-1871) - Manuscript tune book and bookplate made for Heinrich Gottschall, dated 1835, hand-drawn watercolor and ink on wove paper, depicting a vibrant intricate angel with outstretched wings with black and red dots on red and yellow striped and scalloped design under a black and red swirl flanked by hearts in the bottom corners with green, yellow, and red flowering vines emerging from them, the border with red, yellow, and black crosshatching with dots and red blocked corners, a wonderful example, 3 7/8" x 6 1/4" (some water staining). Pictured in Fraktur Writings or Illuminated Manuscripts by Dr. Donald A. Shelley, plate 151; and Bucks County Fraktur by Cory Amsler, fig. 291.
