Montgomery County Schwenkfelder hand-drawn watercolor on wove paper fraktur, letter "H" for Heilig, possibly by Susanna Heebner, executed in vibrant red, orange, and black, the letter intertwined with a variety of tulips and intricate stylized flowers, typical of Schwenkfelder design, a superb example, 7 1/4" x 6 1/2". Provenance: George Horace Lorimer collection. Pictured in Fraktur Writings or Illuminated Manuscripts by Dr. Donald A. Shelley, plate 174; and Pennsylvania German Illuminated Manuscripts by Henry S. Borneman, plate 18. For similar examples, see The Pennsylvania German Fraktur of the Free Library of Philadelphia, plate 1014. Information and examples of Schwenkfelder designs can be found in Fraktur Writings and Folk Art Drawings of the Schwenkfelder Library Collection by Dennis Moyer.
