Staten Island, New York silk on linen needlework sampler, inscribed "Eliza A. Bodine's Work, New York, Aged __Years 1837" with alphabet, verse, floral wreath, and roses, 17 1/2" x 16 3/4". Family history accompanies this lot. Eliza's mother, Polly Bodine (the witch of Staten Island), was involved in a sensational murder case in the 19th c.
