Rare Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania silk on linen needlework sampler, inscribed "Jane Fulton aged nine yrs. Done at Mrs. Callan's School. Pittsburgh. April the seventh 1826", with birds and basket of flowers, over a school yard scene, the brick school inscribed "Academy", over verse, all within a floral and vine border, 16 1/2" x 16". Jane Fulton was born November 15, 1814 in Westmoreland, PA, daughter of Henry Fulton and Rebecca Jack.
Overall very good condition. A few losses to lettering. Staining along bottom edge. Date looks as though it has been cleaned around and may be re-stitched.
