Lancaster County, Pennsylvania painted poplar Compass Artist dome lid box, early 19th c., retaining its original pinwheel flowers on a blue/green ground, 10 1/2'' h., 16 3/4'' w. Provenance: A. Charles Singleton, Eva Shaeffer Estate, September 7, 1991. Leather handles added to sides and removed. Tack holes to front from applied straps? Lacking hasp. Hinges replaced. Nails added to secure dovetails, mostly to top of rear corners.
