Pair of Newport, Rhode Island silk on linen needlework samplers, one inscribed "Nancy Martindale 1761", the other "1759", with alphabets, numbers, stylized flowers, and scenes with houses, figures, trees, animals, and birds. These were probably done by sisters, one born in 1759 and one in 1761, 16 1/4" x 8 1/4".
Provenance: Stephen and Carol Huber.
Overall browning to both. Several repairs & losses to stitching and small holes especially in sampler with the brown house.
