Exceptional matched pair of Scottish John Campbell highland ram's head flintlock pistols, 18th c., approximately .58 smoothbore caliber, having intricate scroll engraved three stage barrels with flared muzzles, entire pistols are intricately and highly engraved with the lower portions decorated with three silver bands engraved with chevrons, centered by panels of engraved lines of scrolls, chevrons and Celtic rope work, the cocks and area behind the cocks are engraved with scrolling foliate sprays, the butts are scroll engraved on the sides with foliate engraving on the upper section, the grips with silver monogramed initials in an oval panel on each side, the tail of the belt hooks are elaborately pierced, extending to the grips, the round pick heads and round trigger are engraved with heart shaped etchings, the ramrods are fluted with ornate turnings, the cocks have horizontal sears extending through the lock plates which hold the cocks in half cock position, 7" barrel with the total length of the pistols being 11 1/2".

Condition

Both pistols are in fine overall condition, fully functional and locks up tight, picks and ramrods are original to the pistols and both exhibit a pleasing patina to the bright metal.
