Liverpool Herculaneum earthenware pitcher, early 19th c., with transfer decoration of Commodore Preble's Squadron Attacking the City of Tripoli Aug. 3 1804, the reverse with a bust of Preble above a Native American, and beneath the spout with an American eagle and shield, above the inscription Herculaneum Pottery, Liverpool, 9'' h. For further reference, see Smith Liverpool Herculaneum Pottery, fig. 53 and Sotheby's, February 14, 1978, lot 426. Provenance: R. H. Wood.
1/4" spout chip. Glaze roughness to rim and handle. Base of handle restored. A few small stains.
