Lancaster County, Pennsylvania poplar and pine polychrome decorated compass box, ca. 1800-1840, with punched sheet iron latch and escutcheon, single drawer and profuse red and white decoration on a blue ground, 12 1/2" h., 16" w., 10 1/2" d. This is an outstanding example of this man's work. For reference and examples, see American Radiance The Ralph Esmerian Collection, pgs. 172 and 459. A nearly identical example was sold from the collection of Richard and Joy Kanter, Sotheby's January 2002, lot 682, originally from the Lorimer Collection and Ronald Pook Antiques. Condition

Paint is original. 4" strip of bottom board is replaced. Overall excellent condition.
