Important Lewis family Chester County, Pennsylvania walnut wainscot armchair, ca. 1720, with a boldly scroll cut crest rail, arched panel back, exquisitely shaped and incised arms, turned front legs and stretchers. Two similar "joined great chairs" at Winterthur are pictured in Forman, American Seating Furniture 1630-1730, plates 22 and 23. Another example was sold at the October, 2004 Walter M. Jeffords sale. This example is probably superior to any other examples extant.
