Baltimore, Maryland Sheraton painted fancy settee, ca. 1810, attributed to Thomas Renshaw, the decoration attributed to John Barnhart, retaining its original yellow/gold ground, with fanciful landscapes on the crest rail, 33 3/4'' h., 72 1/2'' w. A closely related settee is in the collection of MESDA. Another settee signed by both Renshaw and Barnhart is in the collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art. Property sold with the approval of the trustees of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to benefit acquisition funds.

Condition

Overall very good. Tops of the arm supports have an old overpaint, but remainder of surface appears to be untouched. Arms have additional screws added.
