Anthony Rehm (Milford Township, Pennsylvania, active 1818-1825), rare watercolor and ink on laid paper birth and baptismal certificate for Elias Hettich, dated 1818, Bucks County, with a central large heart with scalloped border enclosing script, surrounded by tulip vines, birds, running stags, and two lower hearts, all decorations outlined with pinprick designs, signed in heart Anton Rehm, later text by Martin Wetzler, 12 1/4" x 15 1/2". Pictured in Amsler, Bucks County Fraktur, fig. 198 and in The Magazine Antiques, April 1998, pg. 591. Exhibition: Mercer Museum, Bucks County Fraktur, 1997-1998.
Contemporary frame. Some discoloration to paper. Repair to left center edge extending in about 2". Several tears.
