American School(early 19th c.), oil on canvas portrait of Major General John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg, 1746-1807, 30 1/4" x 25". Muhlenberg served under George Washington during the Revolutionary War and later went on to become a U.S. Senator and Congressman from Pennsylvania.
Old label on frame identifies the artist as Trumbull, but we do not guarantee the work to be by him. Old relining. Heavy varnish. A few minor touch-ups are visible under varnish.
