American oil on canvas portrait of General Edward Butler, late 19th c., who served as Adjutant General and Inspector General of the U. S. Army, seated at a table in military dress with a sword and plumed hat, 49'' x 39''.
Painting is mid 19th c. Relined. Period frame. Small scattered touch-ups, less than 5%. Provenance: Maryland estate. After the portrait by Edward Malbone. An almost identical portrait is in the collection of the Society of Cincinnati Anderson House.
