Timothy Pickering hand written ink on parchment letter to John Smith, Washington D.C., dated August 2, 1813, referencing the War of 1812, letter - 18 1/2" x 21 1/2". Timothy Pickering was an American Revolutionary officer and served in several capacities under Gen. George Washington. Later, Pickering served as Indian commissioner (1790-1795), postmaster general (1791-1795), secretary of war (1795), secretary of state (1795-1800), Massachusetts senator (1803-1811) and as a member of the House of Representatives (1813-1817).

Condition

Matted and framed in double-sided frame. Letter with folds, slight losses and toning.
