The Works in Architecture, London, of Robert and James Adam, Esquires, by Robert Adam (1728-1792) and James Adam. London: printed for the authors and sold by Peter Elmsly, 1778-1786 (Vol. I, numbers 1-5 dated 1773-1778; Vol. II, numbers 1-5 dated 1786). Folio; with ten parts in two volumes bound as one, with engraved frontispiece by F. Bartolozzi after Antonio Zucchi, eighty engraved plates, eight hand-colored, rebacked with calf, board corners recovered with calf, according to full 2013 restoration notes, watermarks to pages, Vol. I with forty plates plus frontispiece, Vol. II with forty plates and two extra plates at the end, with a total of eight colored plates. Considered the most beautiful and innovative British architectural book of the 18th century (Wiebenson Architectural), it was first published in 1778-1779, and was seminal in popularizing neo-classical ideas of interior planning, the Adam Style of ornament.
