Soap Hollow, Pennsylvania painted dower chest dated 1850, attributed to John Sala, the facade dated and initialed NS, displaying a variety of stenciled decoration to include floral vines and stylized tulips all on a vibrant ground, above two drawers supported by bracket feet, 27 1/4" h., 47" w. A similar chest, also attributed to Sala is illustrated in Muller, Soap Hollow: The Furniture and its Makers, pg. 6.

Condition

Feet replaced. Lacking one escutcheon inlay.
