Soap Hollow painted pine blanket chest, stenciled B.M. 1855 manufactured by C.J. Hochstetler, surrounded by typical floral decoration, the chest is unique in that it was originally fitted with a turned foot, probably a mid western example as it was found in Wisconsin and is possibly related to C.M. Hochstetler, 9 1/2" h., 45" w. Please see Charles Muller Soap Hollow and its Furniture Makers, to see discussion on Indiana maker C.M. Hochstetler.
