Silk, chenille, paint, and metallic thread embroidery of The Washington Family, dated 1841, wrought by Adeline Wolf at Mt. Carmel Academy, 15'' x 18''. This important girlhood needlework is based on the iconic painting completed by Edward Savage in 1790. It depicts George and Martha seated at a table surrounded by two grandchildren and a black servant. Provenance: Greenwood Book Shop, Wilmington, Delaware, 1949.
