Silk and chenille, watercolor and metallic thread picture of the Goddess Liberty, early 19th c., the female figure in a flowing garment with garland of flowers around her shoulders, holding an American flag with Phrygian cap and crushing the symbols of monarchy, feeding the American bald eagle from a chalice, 24 ½" x 17". This image may have been inspired by Edward Savage's engraving of Liberty in the Form of the Goddess of Youth; Giving Support to the Bald Eagle, 1796.
