Very fine Revolutionary War scrimshaw powder horn, belonging to Isaiah Thomas, dated 1775, with mermaid figure, sail ship, sawtooth scrolls, and geometrics covering a large portion of the horn, 14 1/4" l. Isaiah Thomas was a great patriot of the American Revolution, he was a printer and publisher of the Massachusetts Spy whose motto was Open to all parties but influenced by none, he was a minuteman taking part in the battles of Lexington and Concord, he was the first to proclaim the Declaration of Independence in the state of Massachusetts, together with a copy of the June 18th, 1772 edition of the Massachusetts Spy, a booklet titled Old No. 1, the story of Isaiah Thomas and his printing press, and a receipt from William Guthman, dated March 1994.
