Rembrandt Peale (American 1774-1825), pair of oil on canvas portraits of Dr. William Barrow and his wife Eliza Brower Barrow of New Jersey, 30'' x 25''. The Barrow's moved to the Mansion in Jersey City in 1837. It was one of the twin mansions built by Eliza's brother-in-law, Cornelius Van Vorst, who owned much of the land in Jersey City. Provenance: Sold at Sotheby's, April 29, 1976; Collection of John J. and Elizabeth K. Dau, Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
Condition
Relined, retains its original stretchers.
