Rare Philadelphia William and Mary walnut chest on frame, ca. 1730, with overall line and berry inlay, the lid decorated with a large two-handled urn emanating with scrolling tulip vines, over a case with two short and three long drawers, separated by turned half round moldings, resting on a base with a single drawer supported by turned legs, 45" h., 42" w. Although the present chest survives with reduced legs and lacking the center front leg and stretchers, it is the only surviving example of the form known with line and berry decoration.

Condition

Brasses replaced. Small patch to rear of side cornice. Legs reduced. Age cracks to sides with splines added.
