Rare Liberty Triumphant, or the Downfall of Oppression, hand colored political cartoon engraving, 18th c., attributed to Henry Dawkins, published soon after the Boston Tea Party. The scene is set on a map, showing both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, the top left corner with Britannia voicing The conduct of those my degenerate sons will break my heart, below are her ministers, being led by the Devil, with Lord North in front, holding a chained sword, as well as merchants of the East India Company unhappy about their losses. Across the sea is America, represented by a Native American princess backed by the Sons of Liberty, above is The Goddess of Liberty explaining to a winged Fame Behold the Ardor of my sons, and let not their brave actions be buried in oblivion, 9 7/8" x 13 1/8".
