Rare Adams County, Pennsylvania painted pine dower chest dated 1776, retaining its original blue sponge decoration with red moldings and a central tombstone cartouche, inscribed Rossina Orein Franklin Township Adams County Anno 1776, the sides with bold red, black, and white stars, 29" h., 48" w.
Original strap hinges. Color is a bright blue underneath lips of lid and drawers. Brasses replaced. Unusual drawer locking mechanisms located on inside front of case.
