Philadelphia Windsor armchair, ca. 1770, with an arched crest rail with carved ears, above a braced back and outward-flaring knuckle arms, supported by a typical oval seat resting on four boldly-splayed turned legs joined by bulbous turned stretchers, retains a historic Spanish brown painted surface. This chair is branded LEWIS with the S later enhanced. The only other known Philadelphia Lewis was C. Lewis who was working at a later date; 43 1/4" h. Provenance: The Estate of Peter Tillou.

Condition

16 3/4" h. (seat at highest point, tapers down to 16"). Small repair to one ear. Repaired break to side of seat with pegs added.
