Philadelphia William & Mary mahogany dressing table, ca. 1720, the molded edge top overhanging a case with 3 short drawers and arched skirt with applied beaded edge and conical drops supported by bold oblong inverted trumpet turned legs, joined by elaborate serpentine cross stretcher with turned dished china stand, retaining period brass hardware and china stand, 30" h., 27 1/2" w. This exceptional example represents the highest achievement of Philadelphia William & Mary furniture. A nearly identical example now at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is illustrated in Lindsey, Worldly Goods, fig. 135, and as the cover illustration. Provenance: Philip Bradley Antiques.
