Philadelphia Savery type Queen Anne tiger maple armchair, ca. 1750, the cupid's bow crest over a vasiform splat flanked by outward serpentine scrolled arms, above a rush seat with applied scalloped skirt supported by cabriole front legs terminating in crooked feet joined by massive ball turned stretcher, retaining an old mellow patina. A similar example is pictured in Downs "American Furniture" plate 34, and in the permanent collection of The Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum. A similar labeled side chair from the shop of William Savery is pictured in Lindsey, Worldly Goods, fig. 149. Provenance: Joe Kindig Jr. & Son Antiques.
