Philadelphia or Baltimore Chippendale walnut high chest, ca. 1765, the upper section with a broken arch bonnet and flame finials, above a shell carved drawer resting on a base with shell carved cabriole legs and ball and claw feet, 92 1/2'' h., 39 1/4'' w. Illustrated in Baltimore Furniture 1760-1810, fig. 125. Provenance: Descended in the family of Hugh Birckhead (1788-1853), a resident of Baltimore.

Condition

Repaired break to one broken arch at rosette. Original finials, but several chips and lacking central plynth. Original brasses. A few small lip losses and repairs. Lacking two side knee returns.
