Philadelphia maple armchair, attributed to the workshop of William Savery or Solomon Fussell, ca. 1750, the 5-slat back flanked by scrolled arms with baluster supports over a rush seat with applied scalloped skirts, supported by cabriole front legs terminating in crooked feet and joined by boldly turned ball and ring turned stretcher. Reference: Hornor's Blue Book of Philadelphia Furniture, 1935, pl. 464, and similar example in the Reifsnyder collection, no. 629.
