An important Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany three-part desk and bookcase, ca. 1775, with carved pediment attributed to Martin Jugiez, featuring a broken arch with scrolled fretwork centering a bust of John Milton, 104 1/2" h., 42 1/4" w. One other Philadelphia desk and bookcase with a bust of Milton is known and currently resides in an important private Pennsylvania collection. Alan Miller assisted with the cataloging of this lot. Condition

Chips to corners of cornice. A couple repaired cracks to cornice. Upper door panels with newer interior liners, but they do appear to be original. Brasses replaced. Feet are period but probably associated with case. Some alterations to backboards of lower section.
