An important Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany three-part desk and bookcase, ca. 1775, with carved pediment attributed to Martin Jugiez, featuring a broken arch with scrolled fretwork centering a bust of John Milton, 104 1/2" h., 42 1/4" w. One other Philadelphia desk and bookcase with a bust of Milton is known and currently resides in an important private Pennsylvania collection. Alan Miller assisted with the cataloging of this lot.
