Pennsylvania walnut wainscot armchair, ca. 1720, with arched and thumb molded crest rail and a recessed tombstone panel back flanked by bold scalloped arms, above a plank seat supported by ring turned and block front legs, joined by baluster and ring turned medial stretcher and square side stretchers. Provenance: Collection of J. Stodgell Stokes Parke Bernet, March 20, 1948, lot 160; Joe Kindig Jr. & Son Antiques, 1958.

Condition

Arms and seat panel show evidence of later upholstery. Feet ended out 2". Seat replaced. Old plug marks on bottom blocks of feet.
