Pennsylvania or Southern Chippendale walnut secretary desk and bookcase, ca. 1765, the bonnet top with applied shell and fluted pilasters, the tombstone panel doors enclosing a fitted interior, resting on a fall front base with shell carved interior supported by ogee bracket feet, 96 1/4" h., 40" w. Purportedly descended in the family of Edward Shippen Burd (1779-1848) of Philadelphia. Provenance: Joe Kindig Jr. & Son 1985; The Collection of Daniel Heisler and Mary Jane Sheppard, Lutherville, MD.

Condition

Finials and fall front replaced. Yellow pine secondaries. Brasses are period replacements. Some restoration and reconstruction to drawer bottoms. Bottom half of feet pieced.
