Patriotic carved pine plaque of Uncle Sam's Son, dated 1899, featuring an eagle above a Spanish-American War sailor holding an American flag and surrounded by slogans such as In God We Trust, Long Live President McKinley, Americans Forever, etc., the reverse inscribed Invented and Carved by J.M.A. Garcia Senr. St. Thos. Dedicated to the Hon. Amer. Consul Van Horne, 12 3/4'' x 7 1/8''. Illustrated in Deborah Harding Stars and Stripes: Patriotic Motifs in American Folk Art.
