An Important pair of Philadelphia Chippendale walnut dining chairs, ca. 1760, each with an unusual shell and floret carved crest, above a pierced and voluted splat, above a slip seat supported by carved cabriole legs, terminating in ball and claw feet, retaining an old, possibly original surface. Provenance: Purchased by Ruth Keator Fredericks and thence by descent in the family of Bruce Fredericks; Charles Duke Antiques, Upper Montclair, New Jersey, 1937.

Condition

#1 - scattered small scuffs, a little heavier to knees and feet, small batten added to rear of splat bottom right, slip seat is an early replacement, upholstery tacks along underside of seat frame from later webbing to support springs, rails were not over upholstered. #2 - scattered small scuffs, slip seat probably an early replacement, upholstery tack holes to underside of seat frame.
