Pair of cast iron plaques, ca 1880, with portrait of President George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in relief surrounded by a scrolled border, 15" dia. These plaques are identical (apart from a difference in diameter) to medallions made for the Sun Iron Building, the 1851 headquarters of the Baltimore Sun. Designed by cast-iron innovator James Bogardus, this cast-iron building was a landmark technological achievement in its time.
