Pair of American scrimshaw whale teeth, early 20th c., depicting two Civil War ironclad engagements, March 8, 1862 at Hampton Roads the C.S.S. Virginia rams the Cumberland on front, the reverse with an oval portrait of Captain F. Buchanan First Commander of the C.S.S. Virginia, 5" h., the second March 9 1862 at Hampton Roads Naval Duel of C.S.S. Virginia and Monitor on front, the reverse with oval portraits of Executor Officer Gatesby R. Jones, C.S.S. Virginia and Lieutenant John Worden, Commanding Officer of Monitor, 5 1/4" h.

Condition

A couple small cracks to base. Provenance: Cumberland County Historical Society.
