New Haven, Connecticut incised stoneware jug, ca. 1825-1830, by Absalom Stedman, with incised cobalt decorated spread winged American eagle with shield breast holding an American flag in one talon and arrows in the other, a cloud like banner arises from the eagle's beak, incised Made by A. Stedman, 19 1/4" h. Exhibited: Abby Aldrich, Williamsburg, Virginia, October 12, 1975. Provenance: Preston Bassett collection; Barry Cohen; David Schorsch; Fred Giampetio.

Condition

A few old worn flakes/chips to spout. 1 1/4" worn spot to handle. A few light hairlines around shoulder. 10" hairline to rear. Tight crows feet to base.
