Rinehart, Omaha, the man is wearing a rarely photographed Ghost Dance costume. The Ghost Dance originated around 1870, meant to put dancers into a trance-like state where they could see their dead relatives and see the land as it once was before the white man arrived. US newspapers described the dance as a "religious frenzy", worry of an Indian uprising continued to grow and came to a climax when nearly 300 ghost dancers were murdered at Wounded Knee in December of 1890, 10 3/4" x 15 3/4", frame - 20 3/4" x 25".
