Nantucket basket purse, mid 20th c., by Jose Formoso Reyes with baleen whale accent, 6 1/2" h., 7 1/2" w., together with another Reyes lidded basket, 4 3/4" h., 7 3/4" w., both signed on base. Basically overall good condition. Larger: incised into wood on base "made in Nantucket" and outline of island and maker's name. A few finishing nails missing on rim. One side of strap has 2 of 3 pieces of braid broken from side and break to braid 1 foot from attachment and 1 1/2 foot from attachment. Smaller: handle loop gone from top. Same signatures as larger but done in pen. 2 small breaks to reed which held leather.
