N. P. Ames Cabotville model 1840 cavalry saber, dated 1848, with W D inspector proof, used during the Mexican War and later by Union horse soldiers in the Civil War, also stamped JWR and WD on brim, 35 1/4" blade.
Lacking scabbard, lacking wire wrap, grip has been over wrapped and painted, guard bent.
